The search for Katherine “Kathy” Gillham, a missing Yurok tribal member and mother of two, is now entering its sixth month. Gillham was last seen in Crescent City on June 11, 2012.

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has made finding her a high priority and has assigned a detective to the case. The Yurok Tribe has assembled a search team to find her as well. Gillham’s family hired private investigators, Cook and Associates, to locate her and is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to her return. The close knit family has been trying to locate her from the moment it was clear something was awry. “She has two kids, William and Holly,” said her niece Cynthia Bones. “Her kids are always at the top of her priority list. This is completely outside the realm of normal for Kathy.”  Gillham, who always kept in close contact with her family and has been in a relationship with Frank Lara Jr. for more than 20 years, left Grants Pass, Oregon just before 2 a.m. on June 11.

Gillham was driving a charcoal gray 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor with the California license plate that reads 6UXE841. The investigation has so far turned up video footage of her, captured by security cameras at Elk Valley Casino around 3 a.m. on June 11, the last day she was seen, but not much else.

The Humboldt County Sheriff'’s Office considers Gillham a “high risk missing person” and her disappearance “suspicious” because of how out of character it is for her not to communicate her whereabouts to her family and the time of night she left Oregon. Gillham suffers from diabetes, and may require medical attention. Gillham has brown hair and brown eyes. She stands 5’4 and weighs nearly 200 pounds. A past knee surgery left her with a distinct limp. In the Elk Valley footage she was wearing black jeans, brown t-shirt with a deer on it and had a think chain necklace around her neck.

Update: According to a Humboldt County Sheriff's Office press release, dated Sept. 29, 2012:
On Sept. 29, 2012,  at around 3:45 PM Deputies located Jerry Corriea in the 3400 block of Chezem Road near Highway 299. Corriea was taken into custody without incident. Subsequently, Corria was returned to the custody of the Humboldt County Correctional Facility with a new charge of 4532 PC – escape from custody.

According to a press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, dated Sept. 27, 2012:
On 09-27-2012, approximately 11:45 a.m a Humboldt County Correctional Facility Cal Trans Inmate work crew was working on Highway 299 near mile post 26, when inmate Jerry Merril Corriea , 29 years old, from Redding, fled on foot. Corriea was in custody on a California State Parole violation and was sentenced to 120 days in jail for that violation. Corriea was on parole out of Redding for a burglary conviction. Deputies checked the area for Corriea, but were unable to locate him. A statewide Be-On-the Lookout to law enforcement was broadcast for Corriea who is now wanted for escape from custody.

He is further described as: Native American male, 5’ 9” tall, brown eyes, brown hair, 200 lbs, short crew cut hair and a mustache. He has tattoos of a claw on his right cheek, the name “Jerry” and “ Bear” tattooed on his fingers, and a tattoo on the left side of his neck. He is possibly enroute the Orleans area of Humboldt County. He was last seen wearing a Blue shirt, white T-shirt, blue Jeans and black work boots.

Information from a from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office press release, dated Sept., 25, 2012 indicates:

The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is continuing to search for Katherine “Kathy” Gillham who is considered a high risk missing person. Sheriff’s Office Detectives continue to follow up on leads and consider this case a high priority. Her disappearance is considered suspicious and out of character. The Sheriff's Office requests citizens continue to look for her vehicle and call 911 if they see it. Her vehicle is a 2004 Charcoal Gray Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV, California 6UXE841. She is believed to have traveled State Route 199 from Grants Pass, Oregon to U.S. 101 to Big Lagoon, Humboldt County; however, this area has been checked by air and ground by law enforcement and volunteers.

According to as Press Release from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, dated Sept. 18, 2012:
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office has identified the second suspect, in the case described in the original press release below, as David Robert Bullwinkle, 31 years old of Manila. Bullwinkle is wanted for attempted murder and mayhem. Anyone with knowledge of his location is requested to contact the Sheriff’s Office.The victim in this case is still recovering from his injuries at a local hospital.

On 09-13-2012, approximately 10:45 p.m. the Sheriffs Office was notified of a stabbing which just occurred in the 1900 block of Peninsula Drive, Manila. The victim was reported to be at a neighbor’s home on the doorstep. Deputies responded to the scene along with medical personnel. The victim was rushed to a local hospital by ambulance. When deputies arrived they met with the 38 year old male victim, from McKinleyville. The victim had cuts on various parts of his body including a deep abdominal wound.

Deputies interviewed the victim at the local hospital where he was being treated for his injuries. The victim told deputies he was visiting his girlfriend when suspect Travis Morgan, 27 years old from Manila entered the residence with another male suspect. Morgan and the other male then began punching him, stabbing him and striking him with a machete. Morgan is the brother of the victim’s girlfriend and lives in the same residence. .

At 11:30 p.m. Morgan showed up at a local hospital. Eureka Police stood by with Morgan until deputies could arrive. Morgan was being treated for minor injuries sustained during the altercation with the victim. Morgan spoke with the deputies and claimed self defense.

After Morgan was treated he was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of attempted murder, mayhem and violation of probation. His bail is set at $500,000.00. Detectives are actively working on this case. Photographs of Morgan, and the name and photograph of the second suspect are not being released at this time for investigative reasons.

As of this morning the victim was in a local hospital being treated for his injuries and was in surgery.
