College of the Redwoods will host an open house at its Garberville Instructional Site, located at 286 Sprowl Creek Rd.Garberville, on Thursday, June 19 from 4-8 p.m, according to a press release from CR. The event will include a tour of the newly remodeled building, information about classes and trainings to be offered at the site and information about the process involved in teaching a community education class for CR. College of the Redwoods will host an open house at it Garberville Instructional Site on Thursday, June 19 from 4-8 p.m. The first two hours will give Southern Humboldt residents an opportunity to see the newly remodeled building, computer lab and classroom. Visitors will also be able to learn about community education classes, including English as a Second Language classes, and other trainings being offered. Community members will be able to connect with CR student services, financial aid and counseling staff.
There will be opportunities for those who want to teach a community education class for CR to learn how to apply. “It has been a long road to get here, but it is definitely gratifying to see the completion of the building renovation and the various opportunities being planned for this site,” said CR President Kathy Smith. “CR is pleased to be able to open this building to community activities and future CR classes.”
From 6 to 8 p.m., an introductory ESL class will be held at the site.
Garberville Site coming to life
In the last year new educational offerings and community partnerships have started at the CR Garberville Instructional Site. They include:
- An expanding number of non-credit and not-for-credit Community Education classes;
- The seventh-through 12th grade Garberville Community School is completing its first year back at the Garberville Site after at least three years in Benbow;
- The Artful Children organization recently signed a lease at the Garberville Site to offer art and music classes, as well provide a space to create art;
- Since the beginning of the year, CR has been leasing the theater portion of the Garberville Site to a non-profit organization called the Redwood Community Theatre.
