Dear English Express Friends-
I hope this greeting finds all of you well. As we approach English Express’ 6th Anniversary, we are happy to announce that we are offering a full schedule of classes for summer semester.
How did COVID affect us? COVID brought blessings and challenges for English Express. Our new online program is enjoying increased enrollment, especially mothers with infants, extended family members of current students, and men. Local institutions see English Express as a main conduit for outreach with Humboldt’s immigrant population. Students use English Express’ social media as a main source of connections to these critical services. During the past year we posted close to 500 service announcements, many relating to COVID. A big Thank You to HAF for providing English Express with Chromebooks and to our local foundations for making it possible to keep our doors open for the first half of 2021.
New challenges arrived. Students need technology training to join us online and some need financial support for Internet service. The administrative and teaching hours required to run English Express, online, increased exponentially. In-person fundraising is greatly curtailed and the local immigrant community does not have the resources to support the program’s fundraising goals.
Please consider donating to the English Express 6th Anniversary GoFundMe campaign to be launched this month. Donations will go directly to keeping our doors open for the second half of 2021.
Please contact me with any questions. Best wishes to all of you.
