CAL FIRE predicts “extreme fire weather”

A news release from CAL FIRE, dated Sept. 9, 2011, indicated that there is a "Red Flag Weather Warning" in effect for Humboldt and Del Norte Counties:
The National weather Service has issued a weather watch for Humboldt and Del Norte Counties for low daytime humidity and poor nighttime humidity recovery.  Wind gusts are expected to be 10 to 15 mph in the evening with gusts from 20 to 30 mph expected along higher terrain such as the Bald Hills, Trinity Lake and the west slopes of the Salmon and Siskiyou Mountains.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly.  A combination of strong winds, low humidity and warm temperatures will create higher fire growth potential.

Cal Fire would like to encourage extreme caution.  Make sure your home as a Defensible Space by clearing flammable vegetation from structures.
