Community Safety and Awareness Report for Monday, October 10th, 2011

•Humboldt County Health and Human Services Mobile Outreach Program will be delivering County Services such as MediCal, CalFresh Food Stamps, Public Health and Mental Health Programs this Tuesday, October 11th, between 10am and 2pm, at the Redway First Baptist Church on Redway Drive across the street from KMUD.

•Humboldt County Public Health will be offering a Seasonal Flu Clinic this Wednesday, October 12th from 9 to 11:30am and again on Thursday, October 13th, from 9am to noon and 1 to 4:30pm at 727 Cedar St, Garberville.  For more information call 923-2779.

•Caltrans, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and the County of Humboldt have issued a permit for the partial closing of the Avenue of the Giants and Bull Creek Road for the Humboldt Redwoods Marathon this Sunday, October 16th.  Both lanes of the Avenue of the Giants will be closed from the Dyerville Bridge to Hammond Grove from 8:30am to 2pm. Both lanes of Bull Creek Road from the Dyerville Bridge to a point 6.5 miles west will have controlled traffic between 8:30am and 2pm.  Motorists on Bull Creek Road should be prepared for delays of 30 minutes. Only runners and walkers and emergency vehicles will be allowed on the roads during the closure of the Avenue of the Giants.  Motorists are advised to drive slowly, safely, and to watch for runners this Sunday, October 16th.

•The Six Rivers National Forest has begun issuing Matsutake (mat-sue-tock-ee) permits.  Permits are required to harvest Matsutake mushrooms on National Forest System lands. Violations are punishable by fines.  For more information, call 457-3131.
