Community Safety and Awareness Report for Thursday, October 6th, 2011

•Humboldt County Public Health will be offering a Seasonal Flu Clinic on Wednesday, October 12th from 9 to 11:30am and again on Thursday, October 13th, from 9am to noon and 1 to 4:30pm at 727 Cedar St, Garberville.  For more information call 923-2779.

•Caltrans, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, and the County of Humboldt have issued a permit for the partial closing of the Avenue of the Giants and Bull Creek Road for the Humboldt Redwoods Marathon on October 16th.  Both lanes of the Avenue of the Giants will be closed from the Dyerville Bridge to Hammond Grove from 8:30am to 2pm. Both lanes of Bull Creek Road from the Dyerville Bridge to a point 6.5 miles west will have controlled traffic between 8:30am and 2pm.  Motorists on Bull Creek Road should be prepared for delays of 30 minutes. Only runners and walkers and emergency vehicles will be allowed on the roads during the closure of the Avenue of the Giants.  Motorists are advised to drive slowly, safely, and to watch for runners on Sunday, October 16th.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm when Women’s Radio Collectively will present an hour of discussion about Care Giving. Many people need care now, will need care in the future, or will need to provide care for a family member. Hosts, Heidi of Hospice and caregiver Margaret, will discuss various aspects of care giving and accept calls from the listening audience. That’s tonight, from 7 to 8 pm, here, on KMUD.
