Community Safety and Awareness Report for Thursday, December 29th, 2011

•Wet Weather has returned to Northern California.  Remember, windshield wipers on, lights on!  It’s California State Law.  For more information on Road Conditions for the Holiday Weekend, call 1-800-GAS-ROAD.

•This Holiday Season, Towing Operators Working to Eliminate Drunk Drivers will once again offer assistance to residents in need of a ride.  Now, through 6am on January 1st, drivers who have had too much to drink can call the 24 hour dispatch number at 442-4537 for a free ride home for themselves, AND their vehicle, from locations in Eureka, Arcata, McKinleyville, and Fortuna.  That’s 442-4537.

•The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Animal Shelter would like to remind pet owners of the dangers associated with the New Year’s Eve festivities and animals.  New Year’s Eve brings loud noises and disturbing activities, which frighten animals, causing pets to become agitated. Animals will often run away.  Try to keep your pet indoors, in the garage, or in a secured pen during holiday celebrations. Make sure your dog is licensed, and is wearing the license tag. The Sheriff’s Office Animal Shelter strongly encourages pet owners to micro-chip their dogs and cats. If your pet does get lost please contact the Humboldt County Sheriff Animal Shelter as soon as possible at 840-9132.  The shelter will be closed on Monday, January 2nd, but, will be open again on Tuesday, January 3rd, from 10am to 7pm.

•The KMUD Business Office will be closed on Monday, January 2nd, for the New Year Holiday.  The office will re-open on Tuesday, January 3rd, at 9am.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for an Occupy Movement Talk Show.  That’s tonight from 7 to 8pm, right here, on KMUD.

This concludes the Community Safety and Awareness Report, which can be read online at kmud.org and heard weekdays at 11am, 3 pm, and as needed here, on KMUD.
