Community Safety and Awareness Report for Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

•The Humboldt County Health and Human Services Mobile Outreach Program will be back in Redway next week to assist with MediCal, CMSP, and CalFresh applications.  They can also take referrals for county mental health services including assessments, counseling, and ongoing case management.  This month, they will be joined by the Veterans Services Office.  Veterans needing assistance in obtaining documents and service records, or wanting counseling about possible eligibility for veterans benefits, service connected compensation, disability pensions, and enrollment in VA Health Care are encouraged to drop by.  That’s next Thursday, January 12th from to 10am to 2pm at the Redway First Baptist Church on Redway Drive.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for the Civil Liberties Hour with Bonnie Blackberry, Charley Custer and Dan Taranto, for an update on efforts to restore democratic principles to the Humboldt County General Plan Update and planning process.  Important information came up at the December 15th Planning Commission Workshop meeting, not covered by the media. A Southern Humboldter called it the most educational meeting he’d ever attended. They will also have information on the January 19th continuation of December’s Update Review of Chapters 1, 2, and 3.  Democracy requires an informed citizenry. If you’re interested, tune in KMUD tonight at 7pm.

This concludes the Community Safety and Awareness Report, which can be read online at kmud.org and heard weekdays at 11am, 3 pm, and as needed here, on KMUD.
