Community Safety and Awareness Report for Thursday, April 28th, 2011

•On May 2nd CAL FIRE personnel will begin defensible space inspections of residential properties throughout the Humboldt-Del Norte Unit. Inspections are to provide information for landowners to reduce impacts in the event of a wildland fire.  CAL FIRE is reminding homeowners to protect their property with defensible space as required by state law by removing dead vegetation 100 feet from all structures.  Remember, defensible space is YOUR responsibility.  For more information, visit the CAL FIRE web site at: fire.ca.gov.

•California Department of Boating and Waterways, and California State Parks warn outdoor recreationists to take precautions this spring season. This year’s abundant snowfall and spring snowmelt will result in swift and cold river flows that can create treacherous conditions for all recreationists – waders, swimmers, paddlers, boaters, anglers and even hikers cooling off at the water’s edge.  For more information visit: parks.ca.gov.

•The “Not Business As Usual” Benefit Flea Market that was scheduled for this Friday, April 29th, at the Mateel Community Center has been cancelled.

•And the KMUD Spring 2011 Pledge Drive will begin on Monday, May 2nd. KMUD thanks all of those who have already contributed to our Silent Drive by mailing and walking in their pledges.  It’s not to late to send in your Silent Drive Pledge.  And, as always, you can Pledge Online at kmud.org!

•KMUD will host a Board Member Mixer at the Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka at 5:30pm on Wednesday, May 4th.  All interested community members are encouraged to attend.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for The Rights Organization.  That’s tonight, from 7 to 8pm, right here, on KMUD.

This concludes the Community Safety and Awareness Report, which can be read online at kmud.org and heard weekdays at 11am, 3 pm, and as needed here, on KMUD.
