Community Safety and Awareness Report for Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

•The road between Alderpoint and Blocksburg will be closed today from 8am to noon, so that work can be done on the Dobbyn Creek Slide.  Casterlin School will also be closed today.

•Highway 101, 4 miles north of Garberville, is now open to North and South bound traffic. For updated information call 1-800-GAS-ROAD.

•The Humboldt County Department of Public Works will be performing emergency work on Glendale Drive, in the Blue Lake area, approximately one-quarter mile west of the Highway 299 overpass.  Glendale Drive will be closed to through traffic from the Murphy’s Market to the Highway 299 overpass through Saturday April 9th.  Glendale Drive will be open for local traffic only.  Call the office of Humboldt County Public Works at 445-7421 or Blue Lake Public Works at 668-5655 with questions.

•Six Rivers National Forest visitors are reminded to be extra careful while recreating on forest lakes and rivers this spring, especially on the Trinity River.  Planned increased instream flows from Lewiston Dam into the Trinity River and Iron Gate on the Klamath will result in higher water levels, swifter currents, colder water and submerged hazards.  Contact Bob Hemus at 530-627-3286, or the Forest Service office closest to where you’ll be recreating, to find out the latest river conditions and any other safety information.

•The County of Humboldt reminds all property owners that the second installment of 2010-2011 Property taxes is now due.  The last day to make payment without penalty is Monday, April 11th.

•Check out Al Jazeera English at 8:30am, Tuesday through Friday, right after our local news. Find our morning addition of the Local Weather Report and All Sides Now around 7:55am, right before the KMUD Local Newscast at 8am.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for The Civil Liberties Hour.  That’s tonight from 7 to 8pm, right here, on KMUD.

This concludes the Community Safety and Awareness Report, which can be read online at kmud.org and heard weekdays at 11am, 3 pm, and as needed here, on KMUD.
