Community Safety and Awareness Report for Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011
•CAL FIRE personnel has begun defensible space inspections of residential properties throughout the Humboldt-Del Norte Unit. Inspections are to provide information for landowners to reduce impacts in the event of a wildland fire. CAL FIRE is reminding homeowners to protect their property with defensible space as required by state law by removing dead vegetation 100 feet from all structures. Remember, defensible space is YOUR responsibility. For more information, visit the CAL FIRE web site at: fire.ca.gov.
•California Department of Boating and Waterways, and California State Parks warn outdoor recreationists to take precautions this spring season. This year’s abundant snowfall and spring snowmelt will result in swift and cold river flows that can create treacherous conditions for all recreationists – waders, swimmers, paddlers, boaters, anglers and even hikers cooling off at the water’s edge. •In preparation for the upcoming fire season California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Humboldt-Del Norte Unit fire crews from Alder, High Rock, and Eel River Conservation Camps and crews from the Mendocino Unit from Chamberlain Creek and Parlin Fork Conservation Camps will hold their annual Redwood Coast Fire Preparedness Exercises on May 10th, 11th, and 12th. The crews will assemble at Eel River Conservation Camp in Southern Humboldt County.
•The KMUD Spring Pledge Drive has begun! Dial 923-3911 and join in the fun! KMUD thanks all of those who have already contributed to our Silent Drive by mailing and walking in their pledges. It’s not to late to send in your Silent Drive Pledge. And, as always, you can Pledge Online at kmud.org.
•It’s time to get your ‘MUD on! Cindy & Dan will be out Tabling at the Jacob-Garber Square in Garberville this afternoon. Stop by and check out the latest trends in KMUD-wear, including our ever popular, and extremely colorful, tie-dye T-shirts and Tank Tops.
•KMUD will host a Board Member Mixer at the Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka at 5:30pm this Wednesday, May 4th. All interested community members are encouraged to attend.
