Community Safety and Awareness Report for Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

•CAL FIRE personnel has begun defensible space inspections of residential properties throughout the Humboldt-Del Norte Unit. Inspections are to provide information for landowners to reduce impacts in the event of a wildland fire.  CAL FIRE is reminding homeowners to protect their property with defensible space as required by state law by removing dead vegetation 100 feet from all structures.  Remember, defensible space is YOUR responsibility.  For more information, visit the CAL FIRE web site at: fire.ca.gov.

•And, in preparation for the upcoming fire season California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Humboldt-Del Norte Unit fire crews will hold their annual Redwood Coast Fire Preparedness Exercises on May 10th, 11th, and 12th. The crews will assemble at Eel River Conservation Camp in Southern Humboldt County.
