Community Safety and Awareness Report for Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

•Roadway improvements and paving operations have begun on Redwood Drive and on Sprowel Creek Road.  Road construction on Redwood Drive will occur from the north end of Redway proceeding north to U.S. Highway 101.  Road construction on Sprowel Creek Road will occur 0.3 miles west of U.S. Highway 101.  The construction zones will be subject to one-lane, stop-controlled traffic during the operations.  Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic during construction activities.  Please use caution and be patient when driving in the construction zone.  For further information, please contact the Humboldt County Department of Public Works construction office at 445-7448.

•CALFIRE Defensible Space Fire Safety Inspectors plan to work on Alapok Lane, Seely Creek, James Creek, and Shop Roads today.  The aim of the inspections is to identify potential fire hazards and educate landowners on defensible space and strategies for making their residences and buildings more fire safe.  The inspectors will be in uniform and driving a marked CAL FIRE pickup. Anyone wishing to have an inspection of their property, please contact the Garberville CAL FIRE Station at 923-2645 and visit the CAL FIRE web site at: fire.ca.gov for more information.

•Pacific Gas and Electric Company announces a planned Electric Serve Interruption on Sunday, June 26th from midnight to 4:30 am for the Pratt Mountain, Alderpoint Road, and Garberville areas.  The PG&E Customer Service Center can be reached at 1-800-743-5000.
