Community Safety and Awareness Report for Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

•The Redway Community Services District is having trouble meeting its demand. Crews are staged to begin work on our infiltration gallery July 1st, regulators permitting. They are asking Redway water users to please start conserving now. The community’s efforts last season were excellent and saved the day.  

•The Garberville Sanitary District monthly meeting will be held tonight at 5pm at 919 Redwood Drive, Garberville, at the south end of Ray’s Market parking lot.

•Redwood Community Radio will hold its Annual Membership Meeting today at 4pm in the front yard of the KMUD Studios in Redway.  We invite our Members to hear reports, enjoy refreshments, and share your thoughts.  We hope you can consider serving on the Board of Directors.

Caltrans announces that Big Hill Road at the intersection of Route 96 will be closed on July 5th and 6th from 7 am to 7 pm for an emergency project.  Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

•CALFIRE Defensible Space Fire Safety Inspectors plan to work in the Fort Seward today.  The inspectors will be in uniform and driving a marked CAL FIRE pickup. Anyone wishing to have an inspection of their property, please contact the Garberville CAL FIRE Station at 923-2645 and visit the CAL FIRE web site at: fire.ca.gov for more information.

•A Humboldt County Planning Commission Meeting will be held at the Board of Supervisors’ Chamber at the County Courthouse in Eureka this Thursday, June 30th, at 6pm. 

•The Mendocino County Family Planning Program will close its clinic doors after forty years of service, effective June 30th.  If you have questions, or would like a list of referrals to family planning or STD testing services, please contact the Community Health Services Public Health Branch at 472-2700.

•KMUD’s Block Party is coming up this Saturday, July 2nd, and we need YOU to help with the fun.  If you can help, please call Cindy at 923-2513 extension 124.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for The Environment Show with EPIC.  That’s tonight, from 7 to 8pm, right here, on KMUD.
