Community Safety and Awareness Report for Thursday, July 28th, 2011

•The Redway Community Services District appreciates the community’s ongoing water conservation efforts.  Construction on the Infiltration Gallery is underway.

•This Saturday, July 30th at 8:30am Arcata Fire Protection District will conduct live fire training burn.  The training will be held at 578 Granite Ave in Arcata.  Firefighters will be extinguishing room size live fire burns.

•Officials with the Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services are warning recreational users of the South Fork Eel and Van Duzen Rivers, Big Lagoon, Freshwater Lagoon and all other fresh water bodies to avoid contact with algae this summer.  Blue-green algae can be present in any fresh water body.  It looks like green, blue-green, white or brown scum, foam or mats floating on the water.  These floating masses or “blooms” can produce natural toxins that are very potent.  Dogs and children are most likely to be affected because of their smaller body size and tendency to stay in the water.  Please contact the Humboldt County DHHS Division of Environmental Health, at 445-6215 or 1-800-963-9241 for further information.

•Tune in tonight at 7pm for The Rights Organization.  That’s tonight from 7 to 8pm, right here, on KMUD.

This concludes the Community Safety and Awareness Report, which can be read online at kmud.org and heard weekdays at 11am, 3 pm, and as needed here, on KMUD.
