Community Safety and Awareness Report for Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

•The U.S. Postal Service is considering the closure of eleven rural Post Offices in Humboldt County.  These include Post Offices in Blocksburg, Zenia, Phillipsville, Weott, Redcrest, Honeydew, Korbell, Samoa, Kneeland, Forks of Salmon, and Big Bar.  Meetings on the potential closures are happening today in Phillipsville, in Redcrest tomorrow, and in Samoa on Thursday, September 1st.  All meetings are at 5 o’clock in the afternoon at the post offices.

•County Roads is replacing 4 culverts along Sprowel Creek Road today.  Drivers should expect 15 minutes delays.  Culverts are being replaced in the 1st miles after the Highway 101 bridge. Traffic will be slow between the old Osprey School and Tooby Park.  County Roads thanks you for your patience and reminds everyone to “slow for the cone zone”.

•PG&E has announced that a new date has been selected for the Garberville planned outage.  The outage will now take place Sunday, September 25th, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.  They will be taking steps to improve and upgrade the electric system in the area before storm season, including replacing nine poles and fixing more than 2,500 feet of power lines. The outage will affect approximately 2,700 customers. Anyone affected will be notified by mail.

•The KMUD Business Office will be closed on Monday, September 5th, in observance of Labor Day.  The office will re-open at 9am on Tuesday, September 6th.
