An Outdoor Art Project for the Community!
Playhouse Arts presents Migrations: Walking Together.
The structure of this event is a procession: we will start in front of the Arcata Playhouse (1251 9th St, Arcata, CA 95521) and finish with a celebratory parade at Valley West in Carlson Park (5201 Carlson Park Dr, Arcata, CA 95521). The procession stops at several locations along the route where diverse cultural groups and organizations such as Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI), Centro Del Pueblo, the Yurok Wellness Coalition, Outer Space, and the North Coast Environmental Center will share their work, play, and culture. Participants can plan to walk the whole route or just drop in for a performance or two hosted by these local organizations.
Migrations utilizes the research and community outreach that Playhouse Arts continues to develop to broaden and deepen our relationships as humans. The arts help us experience the connective tissue that binds us to this part of the earth today. The Playhouse and their partners will look at who we are through the lens of migration in Humboldt to see the systemic inequities and history that have driven us to this point – to realize, to empathize, and to be compelled to undertake just action.
This original, multi-disciplinary, multicultural project offers dance, movement, storytelling, puppetry, music, poetry and more. We will celebrate with food upon arriving at our final destination, Carlson Park. Join us for the whole walk (about 5 miles) or drop in for specific performances and cultural sharings! Strollers and bikes are welcome, please no motor vehicles.

Playhouse Arts presenta Migraciones, Caminamos Juntxs
La estructura de este evento es una procesión: comenzaremos frente al Playhouse (1251 9th St, Arcata, CA 95521) y terminaremos con un desfile de celebración en Carlson Park, Valley West (5201 Carlson Park Dr, Arcata, CA 95521). La procesión se detiene en varios lugares a lo largo de la ruta donde diversos grupos y organizaciones culturales como HAPI (Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity), Centro Del Pueblo, Yurok Wellness Coalition, Outer Space, y el North Coast Environmental Center compartirán su trabajo, juego y cultura. Los participantes pueden planificar el recorrido completo o simplemente acudir a una o dos actuaciones organizadas por estas organizaciones locales.
Migraciones utiliza la investigación y el alcance comunitario que Playhouse Arts sigue desarrollando para ampliar y profundizar nuestras relaciones como seres humanos. Las artes nos ayudan a tener una experiencia del tejido conectivo que nos une a esta parte de la tierra hoy en día. Playhouse y sus socios observarán quiénes somos a través de la lente de la migración en Humboldt para ver las desigualdades sistémicas y la historia que nos han llevado a este punto, para darnos cuenta, empatizar y sentirnos movidos a emprender acciones justas.
Este proyecto original, multidisciplinar y multicultural ofrece danza, movimiento, cuentacuentos, marionetas, música, poesía y mucho más. Lo celebraremos con comida al llegar a nuestro destino final, el Parque Carlson.
Acompáñenos durante toda la caminata (unos 8 kilómetros) o acérquese a actuaciones específicas y a compartir la cultura. Los carritos de bebé y las bicicletas son bienvenidos, pero se ruega que no haya vehículos a motor.
