“A story that interrogates and characterizes human beings in the prison system”
BLUE LAKE, CA – All the way fromZimbabwe… Dell’Arte International Presents “ZANDEZI”! Directed by our very own 2011 PTP Grad, Lloyd Nyikadzino, and featuring Cadrick Msongelwa (Dell’Arte PTP Grad 2020) & Ronald Sigeca! This provocative, daring and innovative physical theatre piece cross-examines and performs people pursuing justice, resiliency and negotiating their power and freedom in the Zimbabwean prison system. Their world is harsh, surreal and absurd, and reality for far too many. After performances at Georgetown University, Seattle and Portland, Zandezi is coming to Blue Lake. Actors will be available for a Q&A after the show, so stick around!

SYNOPSIS:
Zandezi follows the experiences of inmates in the Zimbabwean prison system, focusing on Philani who was charged and incarcerated on false pretenses. Through him, and other characters, we explore daily life in a cell block at Zandezi (Prison) and the feelings of separation and attachment to a society too often ambivalent to their fight for justice, freedom and dignity.
Zandezi will run in the Carlo Theatre at 131 H St. in Blue Lake on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 27 & 28th, 2022 at 8 p.m. and on May 29th at 2 p.m for a matinee. These performances are an educational and cultural event with donations accepted to the Zandezi ensemble’s residency and production costs for the event. Reservations are highly encouraged.
