HUMBOLDT SPONSORS ANNOUNCES FINAL RUMMAGE SALE
After more than 55 years, Humboldt Sponsors announces it will hold its final annual rummage sale fundraiser on Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 9am-3pm, at Redwood Acres Fairgrounds in Eureka.
“Sadly, after very careful consideration and with mixed emotions, we have decided that this will be our ‘grand finale’ rummage sale,” stated Tammy Curtis, Humboldt Sponsors president. “This was a very difficult decision based on many factors,” Curtis added, “in particular, the loss of our storage facility lease, the amount of time and effort required, and the overall cost to hold the event.”
Humboldt Sponsors’ popular annual rummage sale has been a long-standing Humboldt County tradition since 1965, drawing people from all over Northern California and Southern Oregon. Over the years, the event has been the organization’s primary fundraiser, with all net proceeds going directly into its HUGS Grant Fund to benefit local children.
“We know this decision will be very disappointing to many in our community, as well as to our many associate members,” added Curtis, “and we would like to express our deepest appreciation for all their support over the years.”
As in the past, this much-anticipated event will feature three buildings full of bargains for the entire family, with all merchandise donated by our generous local community. There is no admission fee to shop and free parking will be available.
“Unfortunately, we will not be accepting any rummage donations for this year’s sale,” stated Becky Giacomini, one of six event co-chairs. “Our storage facility is bursting at the seams, as we have not been able to hold our sale since 2019,” Giacomini added.
Each year in April, Humboldt Sponsors awards grant funds to local non-profit, youth-related programs and organizations. This year, a total of $85,422 was distributed among 44 individual grants, bringing the overall total of grants awarded since 1973 to nearly $2,733,000.
Humboldt Sponsors is a local 501(c)(3) charitable, nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds solely to benefit the youth of Humboldt County. The organization consists of approximately 350 all-volunteer members and is currently the largest provider of non-governmental funds for youth in Humboldt County.
