Indigenous Land Return and Stewardship
The efforts of Wiyot and other indigenous peoples to reclaim ancestral lands and habitats helps maintain cultural tradition and botanical diversity. Adam Canter, Natural Resource Director for the Wiyot Tribe, will explain Wiyot ethnobotany, and show how settler development and the absence of cultural fire has caused the decine of coastal prairie and scrub habitat around the Wigi (Humboldt Bay), the lower Wiya’t (Eel River), and the lower Baduawa’t (Mad River).
