Redwood Region Audubon Society will offer a free guided birding tour along the Eureka Waterfront Trail on Sunday, June 19, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with leader Ralph Bucher. This relatively urban trail offers the potential to observe species abundance and diversity comparable to many more remote locations. This walk is on a flat, paved trail that is easily accessible. Join Redwood Region Audubon Society for a Women and Girls Birding Tour of Trinidad Head on Sunday, June 19, 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with leader Maddy Rifka-Brunt. This walk marks the one year anniversary of the monthly Women and Girls Bird Walk series and will have a special focus on the seabirds nesting on the rocks just offshore. Maddy has been monitoring these nearshore rocks for nesting seabirds for a few months this season. She will share her observations and knowledge of these colonially nesting species, likely including cormorants, gulls, and murres. We may see some great terrestrial species as we walk around Trinidad Head. Bring a scope if you have one. We will also bring several to share. Join Redwood Region Audubon Society on Saturday, June 25, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for a Wigi Wetlands Volunteer Workday. Help create bird-friendly native habitat and restore a section of the bay trail by removing invasive plants and trash. The trail section is located behind the Bayshore Mall and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart. We will provide tools, gloves and packaged snacks. Join Redwood Region Audubon Society in partnership with local guiding company, Kayak Trinidad on Saturday, June 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for an exciting morning viewing local seabirds from a kayak. We will ply the waters of Trinidad Bay with professional kayak guides seeking out Marbled Murrelets, Pigeon Guillemots, Common Murres, Black Oystercatchers and more. All kayaks and gear are provided.
