Join Redwood Region Audubon Society on Sunday, September 5 at 7:30 a.m. for a wheelchair accessible Women and Girls Birding Walk at Hiller Park in McKinleyville. This is the fourth, in a series of monthly bird watching trips led by women birders for women and girls; focused on creating inclusive, collaborative spaces for both novice and experienced female birders. September is here and the birding action is picking up! This walk led by Samantha Chavez, a wildlife graduate student at HSU studying barn owls, is likely to provide great viewing opportunities of both resident and migratory songbirds and hopefully some of the raptors, shorebirds, and water birds that use this park and the surrounding area. This is a wonderful, two- to three- hour trip for people wanting to learn the birds of the Humboldt Bay area. It takes a leisurely pace with an emphasis on enjoying the birds! Join Redwood Region Audubon Society for a Wigi Wetlands Volunteer Workday on Saturday, September 25, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Help create bird-friendly native habitat and restore a section of the bay trail. The trail section is located behind the Bayshore Mall and volunteers will meet in the parking lot directly behind Walmart. We will provide tools and packaged snacks. Join Redwood Region Audubon Society in partnership with Kayak Trinidad (kayaktrinidad.com) for an exciting morning viewing local seabirds from a kayak. On Saturday, September 25, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., we will ply the waters of Trinidad Bay with professional guides seeking out Marbled Murrelets, Pigeon Guillemots, Common Murres, Black Oystercatchers and more. All kayaks and gear are provided. Space is limited and reservations are required. Costs for this trip are $99/person to cover equipment and professional kayak guides.
