Lieutenant Michael Thomas promoted to Undersheriff.

The following information was released by a Humboldt County Sheriffs
Office Information Bulletin, dated Jan., 24, 2011:

On Monday, January 24, 2011, Sheriff Mike Downey promoted Lieutenant
Michael Thomas to the position of Undersheriff. Undersheriff Michael
Thomas has been with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for 32 years
and a life-long resident of Humboldt County. He started his career in
law enforcement in 1979 as a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Gene Cox. He
has previously held positions of the Lieutenant in command of the
Criminal Investigations Division, Operations Division, and Court/Civil
Division. He has served as a Sergeant for Patrol, the Marijuana
Eradication Team, and Out-Station Commander. Undersherff Thomas has been
a SWAT Team Leader, Rangemaster, and is a lifetime member of the
California Narcotic Officer’s Association. He holds a Bachelor of
Science degree from Willamette University, an Associate Arts degree from
College of the Redwoods, as well as Peace Officer Standards and Training
(POST) certificates for Management and Executive Development. He is also
a graduate of the POST Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute.
