Search warrant nets over 700 marijuana plants & cultivation arrest
According to a Eureka Police Department press release, dated April 5, 2011:
On 4/05/11, at about 10:00 AM, Detectives with the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (POP) and Criminal Investigation Services served a search warrant at a residence on the 3700 block of H Street, Eureka. The warrant was in response to neighborhood complaints concerning a suspected grow house there. After announcing their presence and purpose and receiving no response, detectives forced a back door open and entered the residence. Detectives encountered and detained one male inside, Jesse Ichiro Breckels (28 of Eureka). During a subsequent search of the residence, detectives located and seized approximately 710 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, scales and packaging materials, 40 pounds of processed marijuana, and approximately 180 pounds of green drying marijuana.
An examination of the house revealed it was being used solely for the purpose of marijuana cultivation and not for residential living. Several false walls/rooms had been built inside for this purpose. Personnel from the City of Eureka’s Community Improvement Team (CIT) accompanied detectives, including members of the Eureka Fire Department, Building Department, and Community Development Department. An inspection of the residence uncovered numerous building, electrical, fire, and Eureka Municipal Code violations. The power meter was subsequently pulled due to illegal wiring creating an electrical/fire hazard. The grow was also way outside the provisions of Eureka’s new Medical Marijuana Ordinance.
Additionally, 4 pitbull dogs being raised in small kennels in the backyard were removed and taken to the Humboldt County Animal Shelter. Breckels was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession and cultivation of marijuana for sale.
