Update on man’s death in Westport

 According to a news release from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office:

On August 11, 2011 at approximately 10:35 pm Mendocino County Sheriffs Deputies along with Coastal Medical Personnel were dispatched to the 44000 Block of North Highway 1 Westport, California in response to a possible bear attack, which caused the death of a male adult, age 44. An update on this story reveals that the deceased man has been identified as Matthew Coleman, age 45 and the cause of death was allegedly due to a fatal gunshot wound. Coleman was found deceased on August 11, 2011 adjacent his vehicle.  It is believed he was conducting property management at a rural piece of property North of Westport, CA when the incident took place. Mendocino County Sheriffs Detectives are currently trying to establish leads into the murder of Matthew Coleman.  Detectives are continuing to work with evidence obtained from the scene and are attempting to establish a suspect/suspects who are responsible for Coleman’s death.
