Volunteer firefighters arrested in Trinity County for marijuana sales

According to a Trinity County Sheriff’s Office press release, dated Jan. 13, 2012:

On Jan. 10, 2012, at noon, officers from the California Department of Justice and Trinity County Narcotics Task Force arrested Leeroy Joseph Watkins, DOB: 3/27/75 and Dawayne Byrd, DOB: 10/21/80. The suspects were arrested at the Weaverville Burger King parking lot with 50 lbs of processed marijuana bud they had allegedly intended to sell for $85,000. The photo to the right shows the processed marijuana.

Charges of 11359HS and 11360HS as well as 182PC (Possession for Sales, Transportation, and Sales of Marijuana violations of the Health and Safety Code and Conspiracy violation of the Penal Code) were brought against both subjects. The marijuana was in six different bags in the trunk of the vehicle. This arrest was the culmination of a two-month investigation involving undercover agents and surveillance teams. Both suspects are members of the Hyampom volunteer Fire Department and long-time residents of Trinity County.
