SYNOPSIS: Sneaker wave and large surf risk continues Friday and
this weekend. A modest Atmospheric River storm is forecast to arrive
Friday afternoon, followed by a series of storm systems Saturday and
Sunday. Expect periods of moderate to heavy rainfall and strong
and gusty southerly winds Friday and Saturday, and likely Sunday
over the coastal headlands and exposed ridges. Additional
potentially strong storm systems are possible early to late next
week.
TODAY:
Inland: Rain likely, mainly after 5pm. Patchy fog before 11am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Light south southeast wind becoming south 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: A 20 percent chance of rain after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 61. South southeast wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
TONIGHT:
Inland: Rain. Low around 52. South wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Along the Coast: Rain. Low around 58. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Extended Forecast: Northern California is about to experience several days of stormy, windy weather starting Friday, with an atmospheric river bringing heavy rain and strong winds to the region. The Del Norte County coast will see the worst conditions, with wind gusts possibly reaching 60 mph and rainfall totals of 1-2.5 inches through the weekend. Saturday brings additional concerns with possible thunderstorms that could produce brief but intense rainfall and damaging wind gusts. A third storm system is expected Sunday, and more stormy weather may continue into next week as active weather patterns persist across the Pacific Northwest.
