Extended Forecast: A strong atmospheric river storm is hitting Northern California this week, bringing widespread heavy rain, strong and sometimes damaging winds, and a high risk of urban and small stream flooding through Wednesday. Very high tides, storm surge, and large ocean swells are expected to promote coastal flooding for many shoreline areas, especially Wednesday and Thursday. Winds have already gusted over 80 mph in exposed coastal and mountain locations, with 35-55 mph gusts affecting towns and valleys, leading to downed trees and scattered power outages. Widespread rain rates of 0.3 to 1 inch per hour are possible, especially in higher terrain, raising concerns for flooding, debris flows in burn scar areas, and road hazards. The flood threat will be eased slightly after Wednesday, but a second, weaker atmospheric river will bring more moderate to heavy rain and breezy winds Thursday into Friday before drier weather appears over the weekend
