NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE REPORT

Monday, January 19th, 2026

SYNOPSIS:

  • Dry, above-average temperatures continue this week across Northwest California due to persistent high pressure
  • Shallow marine layer and patchy dense fog expected along coast, river valleys, and Humboldt Bay through the week
  • Weather pattern shifts late week as the high pressure ridge weakens and breaks down
  • 15-45% chance of light rain this weekend, highest probability along Del Norte and Humboldt coastal ranges
  • Cooling trend expected but temperatures will likely remain above average through end of January into early February
  • BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING. Increased threat of sneaker waves expected for coastal Del Norte, Northern Humboldt Coast and Southwestern Humboldt Counties. Large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches. These sneaker waves can also move large objects such as logs, crushing anyone caught underneath. There can be 30 minutes of small waves before a sneaker wave strikes.  Avoid rocks and jetties. Avoid steep beaches.  Stay much farther back from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.
