SYNOPSIS:

  • A cut-off low off Central California is moving south, with high pressure rebuilding behind it and bringing drier offshore flow and clear skies through the weekend.
  • Overnight lows will drop sharply under clear skies, with widespread near-freezing to freezing temperatures Friday and Saturday mornings, especially in inland valleys (Trinity and northern Mendocino).
  • Areas with steady overnight winds may stay milder, around 50°F, while sheltered coastal valleys will cool more efficiently.
  • A weak system this weekend will increase clouds and bring some coastal stratus and light drizzle, but overall conditions will stay dry and slightly warmer than normal.
  • Forecast models show possible precipitation returning mid- to late next week, though timing and intensity remain uncertain.
