SYNOPSIS:
- Current warm, dry offshore flow ends Friday as marine layer returns, bringing cooler, moister conditions and possible coastal fog
- Rain system: Strong cold front will bring widespread rain, mainly to northern areas Sunday-Monday (Humboldt & Del Norte: half to one and a half inches in lowlands, 1-2 inches in higher elevations; less south in Mendocino/Lake: up to half inch)
- Much colder air follows with snow levels dropping to ~3,000 feet by mid-week, though limited moisture means minimal snow accumulation at highway passes
- High confidence for continued colder, wetter pattern through mid-month with additional rain waves likely over next two weeks.
- Beach Hazards Statement in effect until tonight at 10:00 PM Increased threat of sneaker waves expected for Coastal Del Norte, Northern Humboldt Coast,Southwestern Humboldt and Mendocino Coast Counties. Large, unexpected waves can sweep across the beach without warning, sweeping people into the sea from rocks, jetties, and beaches. These sneaker waves can also move large objects such as logs, crushing anyone caught underneath. Avoid rocks and jetties. Avoid steep beaches. Stay much farther back from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.
