Show Description:
Every Monday morning from 10:00 to noon, Classical Spectrum brings a calm and mellow start to the week with classical music from all eras and genres. Baroque, Classical, Romantic and into the twentieth century, hosts Douglas Fir and Margaret Lewis share their love of the classics. Covering a wide variety of instrumentation and ensemble size, they each bring a unique perspective to the airwaves.
Show Host:
Douglas grew up with classical music as the soundtrack to his life and frequently accompanied his family to wide range of classical performances. KPFA in Berkeley also played an influential role in developing his appreciation of twentieth century and experimental music. His appreciation of modern music was enhanced by his friendship with a musicologist land partner and he enjoys expanding and widening his classical lexicon.
Margaret also grew up in a family that loved classical music. Her mother was a pianist and organist, her father a baritone, and live music in the home was the norm. She studied violin in elementary school and later switched to viola. After a hiatus, during which she learned to play the guitar, she resumed playing viola and played with the Garberville Community Orchestra. She has been attending the Humboldt Chamber Music Workshop at (now) Humboldt Cal Poly for many years and draws from the exposure there to bring you a variety of composers and styles of many genres.
