Severe Weather Impacting Roads Across the Region
In Mendocino County:
As of 2:30pm, Highway 101 is now OPEN to one-way-controlled traffic following a slide south of Leggett in Mendocino County. A pilot car will guide motorists through the area. Please use caution when traveling.
The original detour, Highway 271, is now closed as the slide near Big Bend Lodge Road continues to progress. There is no estimated time for reopening.

In Humboldt County
Hookton Road at Eel River Drive is currently closed due to flooded. Turn around—don’t drown

Highway 254:
Closed from Holmes Flat Road to Barkdull Road due to flooding. There is no estimated time for reopening.

In Del Norte County
Highway 199:
CalTrans QuickMap reports that snowplows are active but struggling to keep up with the snowfall. Chains are required from Idlewild to the Oregon border.
According to CalTrans:
“Chains are required on all vehicles except passenger vehicles and light-duty trucks under 6,000 pounds gross weight that are equipped with snow tires on at least two drive wheels. Vehicles using snow tires must still carry chains. All vehicles towing trailers must have chains on one drive axle, and trailers with brakes must have chains on at least one axle.”
