SYNOPSIS: A secondary front will bring additional period of moderate to locally heavy rainfall and gusty south winds on this afternoon and evening. Lingering showers into Friday, followed by a drying and warming trend this weekend and through at least early next week.

TODAY: 

Inland: A chance of showers before 10am, then rain, mainly after 10am. High near 65. South wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Along the Coast: A chance of showers before 10am, then rain, mainly after 1pm. High near 62. South wind 8 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. 

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Rain before 10pm, then showers, mainly between 10pm and 4am. Patchy fog after 1am. Low around 53. South southeast wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. 

Along the Coast: Rain before 10pm, then showers, mainly between 10pm and 1am. Low around 52. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Extended Forecast: Late this afternoon and evening, expect moderate to locally heavy rain, especially in the coastal mountains of Del Norte and Humboldt counties, as another weaker storm system moves through the area. Some minor flooding is possible where ground is already saturated, but widespread severe flooding isn’t expected. King tides and a large ocean swell are forecast, raising the risk of coastal flooding along shorelines in Del Norte and Humboldt. Gusty southerly winds will accompany the rain, particularly strong over the higher terrain, with gusts of 35-45 mph possible. Conditions will gradually dry out Friday as high pressure returns, bringing sunny weather and warmer temperatures for the weekend.
