SYNOPSIS: Expect much cooler and drier air today with gusty north winds, particularly in higher elevations and along coastal ridges. Southern Lake County may also experience strong winds, with gusts up to 30 mph.

TODAY: 

Inland: Sunny, with a high near 71. North northwest wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Along the Coast: Sunny, with a high near 58. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 6 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Widespread frost, mainly after 5am. Otherwise, clear, with a low around 33. North northwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light north northeast after midnight.

Along the Coast: Mostly clear, with a low around 39. North wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light north northeast after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph.

Extended Forecast: Cool and dry conditions will persist today as cold air moves into the region, bringing gusty winds, especially along coastal ridges and in the interior valleys. Freezing temperatures are likely overnight in calm, low-lying valleys, particularly in Trinity County. As we head into the weekend, calmer and warmer weather is expected as high pressure briefly builds. There’s a chance of light rain early next week, but forecasts remain uncertain regarding the timing and strength of any potential weather system.
