WARNINGS: flood A flood watch will be in effect from December 23rd, 7pm, until December 24, There will be an inland wind advisory from 1pm today until 10 pm. Along the coast, a high surf advisory is in effect until 10 pm tonight. 

SYNOPSIS: Expect mostly cloudy skies with some lingering fog and mist this morning. Rain will start arriving early this afternoon, becoming heavier by evening with strong winds picking up along the coast. Gusts could reach 50 mph in Crescent City and up to 45 mph around Humboldt Bay.

TODAY: 

Inland: Rain, mainly after 1pm. High near 62. South wind 5 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Along the Coast: Rain likely, mainly after 1pm. Cloudy, with a high near 62. Breezy, with a south southeast wind 11 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then rain between 1am and 4am, then showers after 4am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 47. Breezy, with a south wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 6 to 11 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Along the Coast: Rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then rain between 1am and 4am, then showers after 4am. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 45. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 11 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Extended Forecast: Heavy rain and strong winds will continue tonight, tapering off by Tuesday morning. Showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms are expected Tuesday, followed by colder temperatures Tuesday night, with inland valleys possibly freezing. Another storm arrives late Wednesday, bringing more rain and mountain snow. Expect an unsettled pattern with periods of rain through the weekend.
