SYNOPSIS: A quick-moving rain system will bring showers through the afternoon, with the heaviest rain along the Humboldt and Del Norte coasts. Strong winds, with gusts up to 50 mph, will impact exposed coastal areas and ridges. Rain will taper off by tonight, with only a few lingering showers in the north.

TODAY: 

Inland: A 40 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 55. Northwest wind around 6 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Along the Coast: A 50 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 54. West wind around 9 mph. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

TONIGHT:  

Inland: Areas of fog after 4am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 36. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Along the Coast: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 38. North northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming calm after midnight.

Extended Forecast: After today’s rain, conditions will dry out as high pressure builds, bringing clearer skies and cooler temperatures through Thursday. Expect nighttime lows in the mid-30s along the coast and valleys, with colder spots in Trinity County dropping into the upper 20s. Fog may develop in valleys overnight. Later this week, temperatures will warm slightly, and the weather will stay mostly dry. However, a weak system could bring some light rain along the coast this weekend, with the timing still uncertain.
