Community Safety and Awareness Report

KMUD’s new Community Resources and Calendar page is now live on the KMUD website, wordpress-1438018-5376424.cloudwaysapps.com, under the COMMUNITY dropdown menu. Our improved calendar provides up to date information for farmers markets, food distributions, public meals, blood drives and other community services. This public calendar allows our community members to better plan their days; providers can share and sync their organization’s google calendar. Moving forward, we will continue to add events and information that benefit our community.

The Humboldt County Department of Public Works will be repairing Bell Springs Road at Post Mile 2.20 & 4.96, north of Island Mountain Road. With an expected completion date in Mid-August. expect delays of up to 30 minutes between 7:30am and 4:30pm during this period. In Humboldt,

Today and every Thursday of the season, the Henderson Center, McKinleyville and Willow Creek Farmers’ Markets offer patrons the freshest Humboldt-County-Grown and GMO-free produce along with plants, meats and other wonderful products. The Henderson Center Farmers’ Market is open from 10 am to 1 pm on the corner of Henderson and F streets in Eureka. The McKinleyville Farmers’ Market has a huge variety of locally grown produce, decorative and edible plants, and locally caught fish. and is located at  in the parking lot of the Eureka Natural Foods McKinleyville location The Willow Creek Farmers’ market is located in Veterans Park at 100 Kimtu Rd in Willow creek, not too far from the Trinity River,  and is open from 4-7pm.

Today the Food For People Mobile Produce Pantry will be at the Orleans- Karuk Senior Center  located at 459 Asip Rd from 12 noon to 2 pm. 

Food for People will be hosting food distributions around Humboldt County today. The McKinleyville Pantry at 1615 Heartwood Drive will be open from 10 am until 3 pm. The Willow Creek Pantry will be open today from 10 am until 12 noon, located at 38883 Highway 299.And in Garberville, the pantry at 437 Maple Lane will be hosting a distribution from 2 to 4 pm. 

The Mendocino Food and Nutrition Program will be hosting a drive-thru pop up for fresh, premade food distribution in Covelo today at 76300 Grange Street from 12 noon to 1 pm. Swing by for a delicious premade meal.

Mendocino County residents, the Mendocino Community Food Pantry will also be hosting a food distribution today, and every Thursday, from 2 to 4pm at 44831 Main Street next to the Mendocino Presbyterian Church. For a hot meal, residents can visit the Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 111 East Commercial Street in Willits. For info, call 459-3947. . Additionally, the Anderson Valley Senior Center has hot meals available for dinner today at the Veterans Hall in Booneville. For details, call 895-3609. Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program. Tomorrow residents can receive food assistance at the Gualala Food Pantry from 11-12:30 at  37300 Church St in Gualala. For additional info, call 884-4330. 

(No need to read the following lunch announcements at 3pm.)  Hot meals are provided Monday through Friday at the following locations:

  • Willits Senior Center from 11:45 to 1pm
  • Plowshares Peace and Justice Center in Ukiah from 11:30 until noon. 
  • Mendocino Coast Hospitality House in Fort Bragg at 3pm
  • Redwood Coast Seniors Center in Fort Bragg from 11:30 until 1:15pm. 

AHHA Care-A-Van,  a three-bathroom trailer with showers, will be at the transit center parking lot across from the annex from 10-3pm. They also distribute clothing, food, and hygiene supplies and help individuals connect with services.

The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be at the Humboldt Area Foundation located at 363 Indianola Road in Indianola from 10 am until 4 pm, and at the Benchmark Realty Group located at 818 6th Street in Eureka from 10 am until 3 pm. And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit nccbb.net 

You can help to keep our community trash-free by joining the Eel River Clean-up Project today and now every Thursday. Join ERCP tomorrow at 9:30am at the Garberville Vet’s Park, across from Dazey’s, to help keep Southern Humboldt roadsides trash free.
