HOME AWAY FROM HOME TO HOST POTLUCK AND FREE STUFF DISTRIBUTION TO COLLEGE STUDENTS ON SUNDAY, SEPT. 7

Arcata, CA, Aug. 29, 2025 – Home Away From Home will host a potluck and “free stuff” distribution to welcome local college students back to school on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. The potluck will take place at the D Street Neighborhood Center, located at 1301 D St. in Arcata.
All local college students are invited to enjoy a free meal with friends and the community and receive a free bag of household supplies. Food will be provided by local businesses, including Pupuseria San Miguel, and generous community members. Vegetarian, vegan, special diet and meat food options will be available. Students are encouraged to arrive early as food and “free stuff” bags will be available while supplies last. Proof of college enrollment, such as a student ID or an active student email, will be required to receive a “free stuff” bag.
Non-student attendees are asked to bring a homemade or store-bought dish large enough to serve ten people with a serving utensil or a hot pad if needed. College students are asked to only bring their appetites, but are welcome to bring a dish to share if they feel inclined. Those who wish to bring a dish or volunteer at the event may sign up in advance at tinyurl.com/HAFHSept2025Potluck.
Community members who would like to make a monetary donation to support potluck efforts may drop them off at the City Manager’s Office inside Arcata City Hall, located at 736 F St. Arcata City Hall is
open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Checks can be made out to “City of Arcata” with “Equity Arcata” in the memo line. Monetary donations will be accepted by mail to: Equity Arcata, C/O

About Home Away From Home – Home Away from Home’s purpose is to build a bridge between Arcata’s student
and nonstudent community. Since 2018, Home Away from Home volunteers have shown their appreciation for
the Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods student community by hosting potlucks and free meal and
household supply distributions, serving approximately 1,600 local college students. Home Away from Home also
supports local initiatives surrounding food insecurity.
