Wiyot days, Cannifest and North Country Fair
by Dorothee, Membership Coordinator
KMUD volunteers will be in NoHum for Cannifest on September 7th and 8th and North Country Fair on September 21st and 22nd.
During both events, we’ll be broadcasting live from the scene, giving you a taste of what’s happening.
Tune in to KMUD to catch the action and get a feel for these vibrant events. It’s also a great opportunity to meet KMUD DJs and staff in person and pick up some KMUD gear!
We are also very proud to be part of Wiyot Day, where we will be in solidarity, ready to learn and network. We hope to learn about a low-power FM station that we hear the Wiyot Tribe will soon have! We’ll have a table with merchandise and information.

Homage to the subs
by Dorothee, Membership Coordinator
When you tune in to KMUD expecting your usual DJ, and instead hear a different voice, that’s a sub! These are the dedicated folks stepping in to cover a show when the regular DJ can’t make it. July was full of these substitute DJs, likely due to the vacation season.
First, a big shoutout to the most reliable subs: Little Rock, Jordan Jumpshot, and Kevin. Always ready to step up on short notice, KMUD truly couldn’t do it without them.
This month, we also had some special guest appearances. Boney Maroney couldn’t host Mixed Greens, so Wolfmandu filled in on 7/11, and Verde on 7/25. Both brought their own flair to the show. Susan from Diving In took the reins of Funktionality on 7/17.
We also heard from a familiar voice, Gardner, who was once a star of Youth in Radio. Gardner took over It’s a Musical Odyssey! on 7/6 and 7/20 while Milo was on fire duty. Jaya did a fantastic job filling in for Kevin on Don’t Get Trouble on Your Mind, ED Denson’s show, every Saturday of the month, honoring ED by playing from his classic playlists.
Over at the Children’s Show, Wild Ginger (from Wild Craft), Uma, and Kopely (from Youth in Radio) stepped in while Larry Poppins and Rainbow Brite were away, adding even more humor than usual.
On 7/25, Sue Moloney prescribed Music Is Medicine, followed by Patsy on 8/8. Zoltar covered for Psychedelia Obscura several times, and Daniel had his turn on Wild River Radio only playing songs about the River. Jordan and Doro tried their hand at Spanglish, and Julian, a rising star from Youth in Radio, was featured on the legendary Lester Leaps In.
As you can see, the list is long, and this is just a sampling. We are so grateful for the flexibility and creativity of our volunteer DJs who not only step in to help a fellow DJ but also add their unique touch to these well-loved shows.
If all of that sounds like gibberish to you, it’s time to get to know your KMUD schedule better. Click here to see the always-updating version.

Word of the month: Apoplectic
by the Word Patrol CollectiveOn Politically Correct Week in Review (every other Monday at 7pm) with Joshua Golden and Charley Custer, on July 22nd, Charley said :
“They are apoplectic that Biden has cheated them of their campaign strategy. They had made all these commercials to attack Biden, and now they have to throw it all out.”
‘Apoplectic‘ means “of, or pertaining to, apoplexy,” which wiki reminds us “refers to the rupture of an internal organ and the associated symptoms. Informally or metaphorically, the term apoplexy is associated with being furious.”
Thanks Charley! This is a new word, for a lot of us.
>>>>Try to use it this week in a conversation<<<<
