Community Safety and Awareness Report – November 28th, 2024

If you or someone you know is looking for a free Thanksgiving meal today, here are a few options available in the region. Note, this is not a comprehensive list—contact local community organizations for additional meal locations in your area:

  • First Presbyterian Church of Fort Bragg (367 S. Sanderson Way): Offers in-person dining at 12:30 p.m., curbside pickup from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., and delivery from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Reservations were required by Nov. 22.
  • Willits Community Services and Food Bank (1501 Baechtel Rd.): Hosts a full Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., open to everyone. Call (707) 459-3333 for details.
  • St. Vincent De Paul, Eureka (35 W. 3rd St.): Serves Thanksgiving dinner from 12-2 p.m., no registration needed.
  • Fortuna Adventist Community Service Center (2331 Rohnerville Rd.): Provides a meal for homeless individuals and solo seniors at 2 p.m., first come, first served.
  • Garberville Veterans Association Thanksgiving Event: Held at the Mateel Community Center in Redway (59 Rusk Lane) at 12 noon. Delivery is available for those with mobility challenges—call (707) 499-3931 to arrange.

CAL FIRE has lifted the requirement for residents in the state responsibility area to obtain a CAL FIRE burn permit, however, an air quality air permit is required year-round to avoid receiving a violation. 

Today, Thursday, November 28th IS NOT a permissive burn day in Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino, and Trinity counties. Today is a no burn day across the region.

  • Humboldt, Trinity, and Del Norte County residents can call the North Coast Air Quality Management District at 1 866 burn day or 1-866-287-6329. 
  • Mendocino County residents can call 707-463-4391. or you can go online to mendoair.org for an air quality permit.
