Community Safety and Awareness Report – October 14, 2024

In honor of Indigenous People’s Day some institutions may be closed. In Humboldt County, county offices will be closed today for an All Hands Training Day. Normal office hours will resume on Tuesday, October 15. Please note that law enforcement, emergency operations, and other critical services will remain unaffected by this closure. Additionally, the Humboldt County Superior Court will remain open.

Today from 2 to 6 pm, the Miranda Farmers’ Market’s friendly vendors offer produce, plants, seeds, honey, eggs, mushrooms, crafted items, jams, jellies, and body care products in front of the Miranda Market on the beautiful Avenue of the Giants. That’s the Miranda Farmers’ Market today, and every Monday of the season from 2 to 6 pm. 

Mendocino County residents can receive food assistance today at the Fort Bragg Food Bank from 12 noon to 3 pm today at 910 north Franklin Street in Fort Bragg. For a hot meal, residents can visit the Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 58 Bush St. Willits. For info, call 459-3947. Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program. The Anderson Valley Food Bank will be open tomorrow, and every third Tuesday of the month from 9am to 11:30 am, located at the United Methodist Church at 13850 Hwy 128 in Boonville. The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be at Wildberries Marketplace located at 747 13th Street in Arcata from 12 noon until 6pm. And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit nccbb.net 

Tomorrow, and every Tuesday, between noon and 3 pm, you can recharge at the Redway Baptist Church. For those living without a home, Bridging the Gap Ministries will welcome you for a hot meal, electronics recharging, warm clothing, and, as needed, there’s limited outdoor living supplies available. Get recharged every Tuesday, that’s tomorrow, from noon to 3pm at the Redway Baptist Church at 1055 Redway Drive. Community Alert:

Prescribed burns are planned in Leggett, Garberville, Briceland, and Honeydew from Friday, October 11th to Tuesday, October 15th to reduce forest fuels, improve community protection, and restore ecosystems. Smoke and flames may be visible in these areas.

Today, October 14th, crews on the Yokahama prescribed burn will be burning forest lands near Leggett. 

Burns will be conducted in collaboration with local fire departments and other partners, following CAL FIRE and air quality regulations. Dates may change based on weather or other factors.
