Community Safety & Awareness – January 6, 2025

Mendocino County residents can receive food assistance today at the Fort Bragg Food Bank from 12 noon to 3pm today at 910 north Franklin Street in Fort Bragg. 

For a hot meal, residents can visit the Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 58 Bush St. Willits. For info, call 459-3947. Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program. 

The McKinleyville Pantry is open today from 10 am until 3 pm at the McKinleyville Family Resource Center located at 1615 Heartwood Drive. The Fortuna Pantry will is open today from 10 am until 12 noon located at 2292 Newburg Road.

The Mendocino Food and Nutrition Program will be hosting a drive-thru pop up for fresh, premade food distribution in Leggett tomorrow at 65100 Drive Thru Tree Road from 12 noon to 1 pm. Swing by for a delicious premade meal.

Tomorrow, and every Tuesday between noon and 3 pm, you can recharge at the Redway Baptist Church. For those living without a home, Bridging the Gap Ministries will welcome you for a hot meal, electronics recharging, clothing, and, as needed, there’s limited outdoor living supplies available. Get recharged every Tuesday, that’s tomorrow, from noon to 3pm at the Redway Baptist Church at 1055 Redway Drive. The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile is at the Miranda Market located at 6685 Avenue of the Giants from 12 noon until 5 pm.  And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. The Southern Humboldt Fire Safe Council is presenting an interview of Scot Steinbring for its monthly Fire Radio program today Monday, January 6 at 7 pm. Scot is a private burn boss based in Somes Bar who leads prescribed burns for forest health, including a 900-acre, multi-year project in Tenmile Creek. The topic for discussion is the entire process for restoring the forest with healthy fire, including manual thinning, permitting, prescribed burn strategy, and the timetable for continuing ignitions. Fire Radio airs on tonight at 7 pm.

CAL FIRE has lifted the requirement for residents in the state responsibility area to obtain a CAL FIRE burn permit, however, an air quality air permit is required year round to avoid receiving a violation. 

Today, Monday, January 6th IS a permissive burn day in Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.
