Community Safety & Awareness Report – December 10, 2024

Weather conditions permitting, Green Diamond Resource Company plans to conduct prescribed burning for fuel hazard reduction today, December 10th, 2024, near the town Smith River, in Del Norte County and in the Bald Mountain area near the town of Korbel, in Humboldt County. Burning operations are implemented in coordination with CAL FIRE and the North Coast Unified Air Quality Management District.  Please note that smoke may be visible in surrounding areas, including Highway 101 near Smith River and Highway 299 near Blue Lake, while prescribed burning activities are being conducted. In Southern Humboldt, the Wagner Land Company will be conducting prescribed burns Tuesday December 10th and Wednesday December 11th, approximately 4 miles west of Garberville airport and 2 miles south of Briceland. 

The Food For People Mobile Produce Pantry will be in Redway today, in the Baptist Church parking lot, located at 1055 Redway Drive, between 10:30am and 12:30pm. Food distribution will also be occurring today and every Tuesday & Thursday at the Garberville Presbyterian Church located at 437 Maple Lane from 1030am  to 12 noon.

Today, and every Tuesday, between noon and 3 pm, you can recharge at the Redway Baptist Church. For those living without a home, Bridging the Gap Ministries will welcome you for a hot meal, electronics recharging, warm clothing, and, as needed, there’s limited outdoor living supplies available. Get recharged every Tuesday, that’s today, from noon to 3pm at the Redway Baptist Church at 1055 Redway Drive. If you have donations of food or warm coats to offer or need additional information call 707-223-1560 

Mendocino County residents, the Point Arena Food Pantry is hosting a food distribution at 24000 S. Highway 1 at the VFW Hall from 830am  to 12 noon today. Call 882-2137 for additional information.  For a hot meal, residents can visit the Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 58 Bush St. Willits. For info, call 459-3947. Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program. 

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meets today at 9:00 AM in the Board Chambers located at the Humboldt County Courthouse at 825 5th Street in Eureka. CAL FIRE has lifted the requirement for residents in the state responsibility area to obtain a CAL FIRE burn permit, however, an air quality air permit is required year round to avoid receiving a violation. 

Today, Tuesday, December 10th IS a permissive burn day in Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.
