Community Safety & Awareness Report – February 4, 2025
Today, and every Tuesday between Noon and 3 pm, you can recharge at the Redway Baptist Church. For those living without a home, Bridging the Gap Ministries will welcome you for a hot meal, electronics recharging, warm clothing, and, as needed, there’s limited outdoor living supplies available. Get recharged every Tuesday, that’s today, from noon to 3pm at the Redway Baptist Church at 1055 Redway Drive. If you have donations of food or warm coats to offer, or need additional information call 707-223-1560
Food for People will be hosting food distributions around Humboldt County today. The Eureka Choice Pantry located at 307 W 14th Street will be open from 10 am until 3:45 pm today. The McKinleyville Pantry at 1615 Heartwood Drive will be open from 10 am until 3 pm. And in Garberville, the pantry at 437 Maple Lane will be hosting a distribution from 2 to 4 pm.
The Food For People Mobile Produce Pantry will be in Trinidad today at the Trinidad Library Park in downtown Trinidad at 380 Janis Court, between 10am and 12 Noon.
The Mendocino Food and Nutrition Program will be hosting a drive-thru pop up for fresh, premade food distribution in Leggett today at 65100 Drive Thru Tree Road from 12 noon to 1 pm. Swing by for a delicious premade meal.
Mendocino County residents can receive a hot meal at Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 58 Bush St. Willits. For info, call 459-3947. Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program.
The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile is at Safeway located at 475 M Street in Crescent City from 1 to 6pm. And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit nccbb.net
The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meets today at 9:00 AM in the Board Chambers located at the Humboldt County Courthouse at 825 5th Street in Eureka. Current road conditions as of 8 am this morning:
- Hwy 101 is open to One-way traffic south of Leggett due to a slide. Expect delays and possible closures.
- Chain restrictions on I-5 have been lifted.
- Hwy 1 is closed at from Light House Road to Garcia River Bridge
- Hwy 36 is closed in two places: closed to east and westbound traffic at the Van Duzen Bridge, and closed at ½ mile west of Kneeland Road near Bridgeville and
- Hwy 96: Open though chains control level R-1 in effect from 2 miles east of Happy Camp to 10 miles east of Happy Camp. R-1: Trucks and vehicles pulling trailers require chains, traction devices or snow tires on the drive axle of all vehicles except four-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicles.
- Highway 128 has a hard closure from Highway 1 to the North Fork Navarro River bridge.
- Hwy 199 is Open but snowy. R-1 Chain controls are in effect from Idlewild Maintenance Station to the Oregon State Line. Carry Chains, cars with snow tires and 4WD are okay.
- Hwy 254 (Avenue of the Giants) is Open except for the following locations:
- Full closure from Lum Street in Weott to .5 miles north of Marin Garden Club Gove due to emergency work. There is not estimated time for reopening; closed at Holmes Flat Road to Barkdull Road near Redcrest due to flooding.
- Hwy 271 is closed one quarter mile south of Big Bend Lodge Road due to an active slide south of Leggett.
The latest update from the Humboldt County Roads department indicates the following roads are flooded: Fernbridge Drive; Old Arcata Road – between Graham Rd and Jacoby Creek Rd; Howard Heights, Lewis Ave – between Sea Ave and Bingen Ave; Freshwater Rd – 1/2 mile from Myrtle Ave and Howard Heights; AND, Howard Heights and Garfield School, Elk River – at Stockoff Corner, Berta Rd; Cannibal Island – at the beginning and at the end of the road; Wilder Ridge Road – P.M. 6.9, Mitchell Rd at Browns Road; Hookton Rd – between Hwy 101 and Tompkins Hill Rd; Peninsula Dr – West side of Hwy 255; and Rasmussen Lane
The following roads are closed: Coffee Creek Road; Hookton and Eel River Drive; Shively Road – due to an active slide at P.M. 7.26; Meridian Rd; Camp Weott Rd – to the end; Goble Lane; and Fulmor Rd – from P.M. 1.0 to the end. Chains are required on Bald Hills road but it is currently open.

CAL FIRE has lifted the requirement for residents in the state responsibility area to obtain a CAL FIRE burn permit, however, an air quality air permit is required year–round to avoid receiving a violation.
Today, Tuesday, February 4th, is a permissive burn day in Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.
