Community Safety & Awareness Report – January 20, 2025
Today is a national holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Many non-essential federal, state and local offices will be closed in observance of the holiday. In Eureka, the Eureka NAACP is hosting an MLK Day Celebration today from 2 to 5 pm at the Adorni Center at 1011 Waterfront Drive in Eureka.
Food for People is hosting two food distribution events today for those in need. The McKinleyville Pantry located at 1615 Heartwood Drive is open from 10 am until 3 pm, and the Fortuna Pantry located at 2292 Newburg Road is open today from 10 am until 12 noon.
Mendocino County residents, the Fort Bragg Food Bank will be hosting a food distribution from 12 noon to 3pm today at 910 north Franklin Street in Fort Bragg. For a hot meal, residents can visit the Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 58 Bush St. Willits. For info, call 459-3947. Additionally, Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program. Tomorrow, the Anderson Valley Food Bank will be hosting a food distribution from 9am to 11:30am at the United Methodist Church located at 13850 Hwy 128 in Boonville. The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be at the Eureka Mall located at 800 W. Harris Street from 1 to 6pm. And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit nccbb.net

For those living without a home, Bridging the Gap Ministries will welcome you for a hot meal, electronics recharging, warm clothing, and, as needed, there’s limited outdoor living supplies available. Get out of the weather every Tuesday, that’s tomorrow, from noon to 3pm at the Redway Baptist Church at 1055 Redway Drive. CAL FIRE has lifted the requirement for residents in the state responsibility area to obtain a CAL FIRE burn permit, however, an air quality air permit is required year round to avoid receiving a violation.
Today, Friday, January 20th is a NO BURN DAY in Mendocino County. However, today IS a permissive burn day in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.
