Community Safety & Awareness Report – January 8, 2025

The Food For People Mobile Produce Pantry will be at the Rio Dell Volunteer Fire Department today between 10am and 12:30pm. 

Mendocino County residents, the Willits Food Bank will be hosting a food distribution from 1-430 pm at 229 east San Francisco Street in Willits. Call 459-3333 for details. The Fort Bragg Food Bank will be hosting a food distribution from 12 noon to 4pm today at 910 north Franklin Street in Fort Bragg. For a hot meal, residents can visit the Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 58 Bush St. Willits. For info, call 459-3947. Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program. 

Free food is being distributed to those in need across Humboldt County thanks to the Food for People organization. The Eureka Choice Pantry is open today at 307 West 14th Street from 10 am until 3:45 pm. The McKinleyville Pantry is open at 1615 Heartwood Drive from 10 am until 3 pm today. The Fortuna Pantry is open at 2292 Newburg Road from 10 am until 12 noon. The Garberville Pantry at 437 Maple Lane will be open from 2 to 4 pm today. And the Arcata Pantry will be open at 501 9th Street from 4 to 6pm. 

The Mendocino Food and Nutrition Program will be hosting a drive-thru pop up for fresh, premade food distribution in Covelo tomorrow at 76300 Grange Street from 12 noon to 1 pm. Swing by for a delicious premade meal.

The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be at Farmers Insurance located at 400 G Street in Arcata from 10 am until 4pm, and at Six Rivers Brewery located at 1300 Central Avenue in McKinleyville from 12 noon until 6 pm. And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit nccbb.net 

You can help to keep our community trash-free by joining the Eel River Clean-up Project tomorrow, and now, every Thursday.. Join ERCP tomorrow at 9:30am at the Garberville Vet’s Park, across from Dazey’s, to help keep Southern Humboldt roadsides trash free.

CAL FIRE has lifted the requirement for residents in the state responsibility area to obtain a CAL FIRE burn permit, however, an air quality air permit is required year round to avoid receiving a violation. 

Today, Wednesday, January 8th IS a permissive burn day in Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.
