Community Safety & Awareness Report – January 9, 2025

Today, January 9th, has been designated as the National Day of Mourning for President Jimmy Carter. Most non-essential federal, state, and local government offices will be closed including the United States Postal Service. Please plan accordingly. 

Today the Food For People Mobile Produce Pantry will be at the Orleans- Karuk Senior Center  located at 459 Asip Rd from 11 am to 1 pm. 

The Mendocino Food and Nutrition Program will be hosting a drive-thru pop up for fresh, premade food distribution in Covelo today at 76300 Grange Street from 12 noon to 1 pm. Swing by for a delicious premade meal.

Mendocino County residents, the Mendocino Community Food Pantry will also be hosting a food distribution today, and every Thursday, from 2 to 4pm at 44831 Main Street next to the Mendocino Presbyterian Church. The Fort Bragg Food Bank will be hosting a food distribution from 4 to 6pm today at 910 north Franklin Street in Fort Bragg. For a hot meal, residents can visit the Willits Daily Bread, Monday thru Thursday for Dinner, from 5:30-6:30pm located at 58 Bush St. Willits. For info, call 459-3947. . Additionally, the Anderson Valley Senior Center has hot meals available for dinner today at the Veterans Hall in Booneville. For details, call 895-3609. Seniors in Willits can participate in the Willits Seniors Home Meal Delivery program, Monday through Friday. Contact 459-6826 if you’d like information on this program. Tomorrow residents can receive food assistance at the Gualala Food Pantry from 11-12:30 at  37300 Church St in Gualala. For additional info, call 884-4330. 

Food for People will be doing free food distributions throughout Humboldt County today. The McKinleyville Pantry at 1615 Heartwood Drive will be open from 10 am until 3 pm. The Willow Creek Pantry will be open at 38883 Hwy 299 from 10 am until 12 noon. And the Garberville Pantry at 437 Maple Lane will be open from 10:30 am until 12 noon.

The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be in Old Town Eureka located at 619 2nd Street from 10 am until 4 pm, and at the McKinleyville Shopping Center located at 1505 City Center Road from 11 am until 5 pm. And as always, the blood bank is open Monday thru Friday, located at 2524 Harrison Avenue in Eureka. To schedule an appointment to donate, visit nccbb.net

CAL FIRE has lifted the requirement for residents in the state responsibility area to obtain a CAL FIRE burn permit, however, an air quality air permit is required year round to avoid receiving a violation. 

Today, Thursday, January 9th IS a permissive burn day in Mendocino, Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity counties.
