Community Safety & Awareness Report-July 25, 2025

KMUD’s new Community Resources and Calendar page is now live on the KMUD website, kmud.org, under the COMMUNITY dropdown menu. Our improved calendar provides up to date information for farmers markets, food distributions, public meals, blood drives and other community services. This public calendar allows our community members to better plan their days; providers can share and sync their organization’s google calendar. Moving forward, we will continue to add events and information that benefit our community.

Beginning on Monday, July 7th, The Humboldt County Department of Public Works will be repairing Bell Springs Road at Post Mile 2.20 & 4.96, north of Island Mountain Road. With an expected completion date in Mid-August. expect delays of up to 30 minutes between 7:30am and 4:30pm during this period. If you have any concerns or questions, please contact Resident Engineer Angi Sorensen at (707) 445-7448.

Today, the North Coast Growers Association is hosting the Garberville Farmers’ Market from 11 until 3:00pm and the Eureka Friday Night Market from 5:30 until 8:30pm.

In Humboldt, Food for People is hosting food distributions in Eureka from 10 until 3:45pm. In Loleta, the Bear River Community Distribution, 263 Keisner, takes place from 11 until 12:30pm and the Wiyot Community Distribution, 1000 Wiyot Dr, from 10 until noon.  

The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobiles will be at the McKinleyville Shopping Center from 11 until 5pm and at Ray’s Food Place in Fortuna from 10 until 3pm. Saturday, the blood mobile will be at the Del Norte Health Fair, Beachfront Park in Crescent City, from 9:30am until 2pm.

In Mendocino, the Mendocino Food Network is hosting  food distributions in Ukiah from noon until 4pm; Fort Bragg from 10 until 3:45pm; Potter Valley from 2 until 4pm; Willits from 1 until 4:30pm; and in Point Arena from 2 until 5pm. 

(No need to read the following lunch announcements at 3pm.)  Lunches are provided for seniors at the Willits Senior Center from 11:45 until 1:00pm, and the Redwood Coast Seniors Center in Fort Bragg from 11:30 until 1:15pm. Plowshares Peace and Justice Center in Ukiah provides a hot meal weekdays from 11:30 until noon. 

Meals are provided Monday through Friday at Willits Daily Bread from 4:30 to 5:30pm and at the Mendocino Coast Hospitality House in Fort Bragg at 3pm.

The KMUD Board of Directors will be holding a special board meeting Tuesday, July 29th at 6pm. A Zoom link will be posted on the KMUD website by Monday, July 28th. 

On this month’s Global Stuff, host Jimmy Durchslag once more updates the ongoing travesty between Israel and Palestine. The Hague Group is a global bloc of states committed to “coordinated legal and diplomatic measures” in defense of international law and solidarity with the people of Palestine. In mid-July, 30 nations met in Bogota, Colombia for an emergency conference to address the ongoing situation in Gaza. All attending agreed that extreme measures must be taken by the international community to end the genocide and atrocities committed by Israel. Kathy Kelly is board president of World BEYOND War and a longtime prominent activist for peace. She joins Jimmy live to discuss the actions by the Hague Group, the situation in Gaza and what else can be done to end this devastating conflict. You can join the conversation. Today, Friday,  July 25th,  Humboldt, Mendocino, Del Norte and Trinity and Counties have suspended all burns at this time.
