Community Safety & Awareness Report-July 29, 2025

KMUD’s new Community Resources and Calendar page is now live on the KMUD website, kmud.org, under the COMMUNITY dropdown menu. Our improved calendar provides up to date information for farmers markets, food distributions, public meals, blood drives and other community services. This public calendar allows our community members to better plan their days; providers can share and sync their organization’s google calendar. Moving forward, we will continue to add events and information that benefit our community.

Beginning on Monday, July 7th, The Humboldt County Department of Public Works will be repairing Bell Springs Road at Post Mile 2.20 & 4.96, north of Island Mountain Road. With an expected completion date in Mid-August. expect delays of up to 30 minutes between 7:30am and 4:30pm during this period. Today, the North Coast Growers Association is hosting the Old Town Farmers Market from 10 until 1pm , the Fortuna Farmers’ Market from 3 until 6pm and the Shelter Cove Farmers’ Market from 11 until 3pm. 

In Humboldt, Food for People is hosting food distributions in McKinleyville from 10 until 3:00pm, Eureka from 10 until 3:45pm, and Garberville from 10:30  until noon. 

The Northern California Community Blood Bank’s blood mobile will be at SDA Camp, 2437 Dyerville Loop Rd. in Redcrest from 10 until 4pm.

In Mendocino, the Mendocino Food Network is hosting a food distribution in Ukiah from 10 until 3:45pm, in Mendocino at the Mendocino Presbyterian Church, 44831 Main St, from 1:30 until 3pm, and in Comptche at Chapel of the Redwoods Baptist, 31201 Comptche Ukiah Rd from 2 until 4pm. 

(No need to read the following lunch announcements at 3pm.)  Lunches are provided for seniors at the Willits Senior Center from 11:45 until 1:00pm, and the Redwood Coast Seniors Center in Fort Bragg from 11:30 until 1:15pm. Plowshares Peace and Justice Center in Ukiah provides a hot meal weekdays from 11:30 until noon.

Meals are provided Monday through Friday at Willits Daily Bread from 4:30 to 5:30pm and at the Mendocino Coast Hospitality House in Fort Bragg at 3pm.

The KMUD Board of Directors will be holding a special board meeting Tuesday, July 29th at 6pm. A Zoom link will be posted on the KMUD website by Monday, July 28th.

AHHA Care-A-Van is in Eureka from 8 until 2pm at the Samoa Boat Launch, under the Samoa Bridge. The AHHA Care-A-Van is a three bathroom trailer with showers. They distribute clothing, food, and hygiene supplies and help individuals connect with services.

Today, Tuesday,  July 29th,  Humboldt, Mendocino, Del Norte and Trinity and Counties have suspended all burns at this time.
